Boys on Film

Five teenage boys speak sections of the artist’s diary entries through a mouth sized hole, while holding various positions behind custom-made curtains. Periodically a rendition of the chorus of You Know I’m No Good by Amy Winehouse is heard in the gallery, the boys sing in unison then switch curtains adopting a new stance and continue speaking words heard awkwardly. In the other room, five mobile phones positioned on shelves play silent videos of the boys close up mouths; shots of them talking, singing, chewing gum and kissing a pane of glass. Wireless headphones accompany the videos playing Amy Winehouse songs on loop.

Performance two hours. Outside of performance times, individual audio recordings of the boys speaking are heard through small speakers positioned at the height of the curtain holes.
